Workshops

Katie Shipley is interested in provoking thoughts about memory. Making viewers aware of the struggles that people face daily with diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and encouraging them to think of the preciousness of even the simplest of memories that they have.

Through the project we hope to get to know the local community of Lozells and East Handsworth by working with them and talking to them about their thoughts for the future.

We hope to work with groups in the commuity by delivering art workshops where we will be using our hands to create objects and artwork, during the workshops we will be able to discuss people's concerns and would like to record these by making a catalogue of images of people's hands and their comments.

The first workshop will be to help create the 'Suggestion Box' where our catalogue of hands will be kept. This will involve decorating a box with our hands. Other workshops could involve wire sculpture where groups can learn drawing techniques and then how to turn these drawings into 3D sculptures.
