Hands

Beyond Bricks is a programme of temporary creative activities that provides opportunities for artists and residents to work together to respond to the social, economic and environmental changes taking place in Lozells and East Handsworth. The programme celebrates the culture and pride of local community, its heritage and its future.

The programme is an exciting collaboration initiated and led by Urban Living and Arts Council England, West Midlands. Delivery of the programme will be managed by local community arts organisation, Multistory.

Artists Katie Shipley and Anna Francis have been commissioned to undertake the 'Give Me Your Hand' project. This involves working with community groups and individuals, working with our hands in a variety of ways, investigating what we can do with our hands in order to celebrate the diversity of the communities of East handsworth and Lozells, and aiming to gain an insight into how the people of the area feel about where they live and their hopes and dreams for the future of the area.

Anna Francis is a multi-disciplinary artist, combining elements of photography, live art, intervention and text-based practices to investigate the impact that art and culture have on the regeneration of cities.
